Supply Chain Saturday

I posted something on LinkedIn this week that clearly struck a nerve. Over 200,000 people saw it. Hundreds commented. Over a hundred saved it. And my inbox has been flooded with people asking the same question: Where do I start?

The post was simple: If you’re not sure what you want to do with your career, go Supply Chain.

But I want to go deeper here. Because that post was 200 words and this industry deserves more than a surface-level take. If you saved that post or you’re here because of it, this is the version I couldn’t fit into a LinkedIn caption.

I’ve spent over a decade in Supply Chain. I’ve worked in Operations, Continuous Improvement, Project Management, Logistics, and now Commercial Sales. All within one industry. And every single one felt like learning a new language.

Same industry. Different worlds. And every one of them needs people.

Here’s the part that I don’t think gets talked about enough: The more of those languages you learn, the more valuable you become. Not just on paper. In practice. Because the person who can walk into any room in the business and understand what matters to the people sitting across from them is the person who tears down silos and creates real impact.

I didn’t plan to rotate through five different functions. It happened because I raised my hand, built relationships, and let each role teach me something that made me better in the next one. And every move gave me a wider lens. That compounding effect is what makes Supply Chain careers so powerful.

And the best part? You don’t have to figure out which function is right for you before you start. You just have to get in. The industry gives you the space to explore and grow without starting over. Your first role is not your last role. It’s your entry point.

Here’s what I want you to think about this week.

If you’re early in your career and still trying to figure out what you want to do, Supply Chain gives you options that most industries don’t. You can start in coordination and move into analytics. You can start in Operations and move into Continuous Improvement. You can start in Logistics and end up in Commercial Sales. The runway is there.

If you’re mid-career and feeling stuck, look around. There might be a function inside your own company that would re-energize you without requiring you to leave and start over.

And if you’re just hearing about Supply Chain for the first time, welcome. You’re in the right place. This industry is growing, it’s stable, and it rewards people who are curious, collaborative, and willing to learn.
